Well… our baby is almost six weeks old, but today our marriage is four years old. We’ve known each other for seven years and been married for four. Pretty much the best seven years of my life, that’s for sure, and thankfully Susan seems to think the same (at least based on the nice stuff she wrote in the card that was waiting for me when I woke up this morning).
Susan’s been doing more of the baby work (partially ’cause she’s the sole food provider, partially ’cause I’ve been spending more time out of the house handling errands and some work stuff, but mostly just ’cause… well… she has better stamina I suppose), so Exie and I decided that today would be a relaxing day for wife/mommy. She’s doing so much everyday; she deserves it!
First thing, we walked downtown (well, Exie didn’t do much of the walking) and found a cute little florist shop and picked up some flowers. Then we stopped by a cafe and grabbed a decaf soy latte and a croisant, both considered treats by Susan. Including the baby in the sling, that was about all we could carry, so we headed back.
After snackies in bed, and a new charm for Susan’s old bracelet, we got ready for a lunch expedition. With Exie around, it takes us a bit longer to launch, but we achieved our goal of beating the lunch crowd. Then we walked around downtown a bit and just happened to end up in front of a day spa, where Susan was surprised to learn that she was booked for a treatment.
While Susan was getting her back pounded back into shape, we went to the local photo store and printed the smallest possible picture of Exie in black and white (to be used later). Then we went home, checked email, did a feeding, changed a couple diapers, took a nap (Exie for an hour, me for 20 minutes), and headed out to pick up Susan again.
On the walk home, Susan was again surprised to find that she also had an appointment at the nail place for a mani-pedi. This gave Exie and me just enough time to run home again and finish Exie’s present for mom before we walked back to pick her up at the nail place.
When we got home, we gave Susan the present from Exie, which is a locket with Exie’s picture in it. I tried to discourage Exie from spending all her money on this trinket, but she wouldn’t listen to me, claiming that mommy deserves the best (with which I really couldn’t argue).
We were originally planning to go out for dinner, too, but in the end we decided that we’d probably done enough today, so we decided to stay in instead. Daddy and Exie ran a hot bath and Mommy was on towel duty. Whoohoo – what a great day!
