We’ve continued to attend some parent support group meetings at Day One, a local store for new parents. Sometimes we all go and sometimes I take Exie, but usually Susan takes her. Susan has made a few new friends there, so that’s an added benefit. A few months ago, Aude (one of Susan’s new friends) invited her and two other moms and babies to her house for a playdate. And they’ve been seeing each other at least weekly ever since.
Aleksandra & Max
Elizabeth & Jonas
Aude & Antoine
They meet either at somebody’s house or at a park. If it’s at our house, then I usually hang around for some of it, but I tend to get out of the way after a while. The playgroup is ostensibly for the little ones, but I’m sure everyone would agree that it’s just as much for the mommies. They have really become quite close, and they rely on each other frequently for advice and support. In every respect, it’s a really healthy thing for all. Not to mention the fact that it’s produced one of my favorite pictures ever (Susan snapped it at Aude’s house):
Antoine, Jonas, Exie, and Max
Susan and I also joke that the playgroup is prepping Exie for a life of travel because it is so international (must be said with a strange foreign accent). Aude’s family is from France, and Aleksandra is Croatian and her husband is Swiss. It’s a small thing, but it does provide some additional perspective on baby raising because every country comes with its own big ol’ pile of advice for parents.
Suffice it to say that we’re really lucky to have hooked up with such great people – we all hope the playgroup has a long life!
