Yes, I realize that the title sounds like we all went to Las Vegas. Or perhaps that at least the baby went to Vegas. Instead, what happened was that Susan went to Vegas to celebrate Lisan’s 40th birthday (show me a picture where Lisan looks anywhere near 40 and I’ll buy some real estate on the moon). So that meant that daddy was home solo with Exie for the weekend. I know… you’re thinking, “Jeesh… 8 months, man! Surely you can handle her for a weekend after 8 months. What’s the big deal?” Okay, point taken, but nonetheless I was a bit nervous about it. As a parent team, there are usually some things that one parent does most (or all) of the time, so when the other parent has to do them, it can be a bit nerve-racking. Things like… breastfeeding. Yes, I’ve fed Exie a bottle every morning of her entire life, and plenty of times sprinkled throughout the day when necessary, but I’ve never asked her to take a bottle for every meal.
on Friday we broke out the super powerful election day milk
Fortunately, I had a great support. Susan’s mom came over on Friday and cooked dinner and took Exie for a walk, which was great. Stella and Spencer came over to spend pretty much the whole day with us on Saturday. And Exie and I went to my brother’s family’s house on Sunday for the day until we had to pick up Susan at the airport.
All in all it went really well. Figuring out how to have a bottle warmed up and ready at an undetermined time in the middle of the night was a bit of a trick, but we managed. And Exie actually slept all the way through (both nights) from her first nighttime feeding until morning (usually she eats at least twice during the night. (Now the cat’s out of the bag, we know she doesn’t *need* that second feeding.)
So of course it was great to have Susan home again (baby and daddy both missed her), but I’m glad to have had the chance to survive my first solo weekend; it feels great to know that I can do it. And hopefully Exie had fun, too.
vegas, baby!
