from zero to
Exie...

weekly activities

When reading about the hectic schedule of the average soccer mom, ferrying multiple kids to and from myriad after-school activities, I’ve always thought of this problem as something to be dealt with at some far-future date. Now, however, I’m less optimistic about the “far-future” part. It’s not that Exie has a ton of activities currently, but rather the idea that if she already has this many, how many will she have when she’s 2 or 3, or 13 for that matter.

She presently averages only one organized activity per day, usually augmented by a grocery or errand run, a stroller jaunt, a park visit, etc. And Susan handles the vast majority of the activities, with the exception of Chinese Music class, which conflicts with Susan’s Yoga class, so I handle that one. This makes a lot of sense since my Chinese and my singing voice are both vastly superior to Susan’s – NOT. I also pinch hit from time to time on some of the other ones if Susan needs a break. So the present load is very manageable (especially for me), and even a relief sometimes since it’s often nice to not always have to invent at-home activities for Exie (having somebody else responsible for teaching/entertainment can be a welcome brain break).

  • Mon: 4pm-ish: Playgroup with Antoine, Jonas, Max, and Nola (location is rotated between various houses and nearby parks)
  • Tue: 12:45pm: Free Play at My Gym (optional)
  • Wed: 2:15pm: My Gym
  • Thu: 10:15am: Chinese Music Class (especially good since it checks off Chinese and Music in one fell swoop!); 4pm: Playgroup at Day One
  • Fri: 4pm: New Parents Group at Day One

We’re also thinking about starting a swimming class, and we’d really like to increase her Chinese exposure. Then there’s Mommy & Me Yoga, Signing with Your Toddler, Let’s Learn Phonemes: A Step-by-Step Approach to Talking, Cooking for Babies by Babies, Introductory HTML, Astrophysics for Dummies, Playground Politics: How to Get Ahead and Stay There, and the list goes on…
