The Cristensens: Doug, Robbie, (Exie,) Katie, & Gracie

The Christensen family (Katie, Doug, Gracie [4], and Robbie [8 months]) was originally going to visit us on the same weekend that Sam and Eric came up. But Robbie was sick, so they decided to delay things until he was feeling better. So they came up (from LA) this weekend, arriving on Friday and heading back down on Sunday.

We hadn’t seen them in too long, and it was awesome to meet Robbie for the first time, and for them to meet Exie. Robbie’s only 2 months older than Exie, but dang… what a difference. He’s way bigger, and he’s solid. And that boy can eat (milk and solids, which is something Exie doesn’t do yet). He eats more in one sitting than Exie does all day (okay, that’s an exaggeration, but not by too much). But from what Katie and Doug say, he was that way at 6 months, too; I quickly realized that the differences between Robbie and Exie were not due to their small disparity in ages, but rather their personalities.

The thing I like best about Robbie is his temperament; he’s just a mellow cat, going with the flow and chillin’ like a villain. He seems very content with whatever his current situation might be. An extremely enviable quality, and one that I wish I shared. Ah well… something to which I can aspire, as I follow in the Zen footsteps of Robbie the Wisely Relaxed One, from whom all tension slowly dissipates.

And Gracie is growing so fast! She’s a great big sister; she really enjoys playing with Robbie, and she was also a sweetie to Exie, so that was nice to watch. She enjoyed playing at our local park and singing us her latest tunes.

Katie and Doug, on the other hand, really don’t seem to be getting any bigger; they are pretty much exactly the same size as they were last time we saw them (if anything, Doug was actually thinner). While I was somewhat disappointed with this lack of development, I must commend them on their consistency.

The weekend together was great. We spent mornings in pajamas and the days wandering around Palo Alto eating things and just hanging out at home. Stella and Spencer spent the day with us on Saturday; brunch in the late morning, and the afternoon at the park. Then we had take out for dinner and after the kids went to bed we played a game we learned recently from Anna (something like Taboo crossed with Charades, and a dash of stopwatch). And for dessert, instead of a birthday cake we had a pile of donuts (I’ve always wanted those instead of cake). Happy birthday to me.
